Joy Systems
Background
Joy Systems, Inc. provides refurbishing services for computer hardware such as monitors, desktop systems, notebook computers and components. Joy Systems, Inc. is the largest refurbished monitor manufacturer on the East coast, utilizing over 150,000 square feet of facilities, with fully licensed spray painting booths. Since its inception Joy Systems has processed over 800,000 monitors with an emphasis on superb quality and zero tolerance for defects. Joy Systems presently produces 20,000 monitors per month. Gross annual revenue is approximately $25,000,000.
Before the project began, Joy Systems only sold their products in bulk to a few major resellers. The web site they currently have shows stock levels for certain items, but does not allow online purchase.
Problem
Joy Systems talked to IBM about the WebSphere Commerce Express offering. The IBM representative recommended the Shared Vision Group because of our “Retail Express Offering”. Joy Systems wanted to spend a minimum amount of money to provide consumers the ability to purchase refurbished computer equipment directly.
Solution
Shared Vision Group and Joy Systems personnel worked together to design a WebSphere Commerce Express implementation that was as close to “Out of the box” as possible. It was determined that Joy Systems would like to have automated credit card processing. In addition, they wanted to have an automated interface to FedEx for shipping updates. Joy Systems purchased the associated CrossView assets, and they were installed.
In addition, Joy Systems requested the following site enhancements:
- Modified the home page to have additional eSpots
- Removed COD, Check, Pay Later and Bill Me Later payment methods from Order Summary
- Make United States the default country.
- Added 4 static pages that may be edited from accelerator.
- Modified the product page to display “descriptive attributes” as an additional tab.
The remainder of the implementation was a standard “out of box” Commerce 6.0 Express Consumer Direct implementation.
Staging and production servers were implemented with a process for propagating changes from Staging to Production on an “as needed” basis.
